Annual Conference 2021

VIRTUAL EVENT || NOVEMBER 10-13, 2021

Intimacy and Interaction

Dear colleagues,

Unfortunately, due to our concerns regarding COVID 19’s Delta variant, we have been forced to cancel the in-person conference, and to move instead to an online format. We hesitated to make this move but we believe that this is the correct decision for several reasons:

1. The rise in cases of the Delta variant and the concerns of spreading and contracting the virus as well as the instability of health care systems in various states.

2. The unpredictability about the pandemic in the next few months.

3. The many concerns about traveling at this time, and the increasing possibility of participants pulling out of panels because of such concerns.

4. The possibility that if too many people pulled out that we would not meet our financial commitments to the hotel, thus forcing ASE to pay a significant sum in penalties.

5. Finally, the COVID protocols at Duke University changed recently to require outdoor dining options for all food events. The conference hotel does not have any outdoor dining options, which would have forced us to cancel all receptions and the banquet.

If you have registered for the conference or the banquet, ASE will soon refund your money. We are working on developing an online conference that will incorporate a variety of different formats, and we will let you know the details and the registration information as soon as we have them.

Sincerely,
