Conference Travel Aid for Graduate Students and Indigenous/Native American Participants
The American Society for Ethnohistory promotes the growth, outreach, and scholarly heft of our field. This involves encouraging and supporting the academic formation of the next generation of ethnohistorians, as well as productive dialogue and collaborations with Indigenous scholars and partners who are active beyond the traditional university system. We therefore welcome and encourage graduate students and interested Native American, Indigenous, and First Nations scholars and partners to attend our conference and contribute to our field.
To those ends, the Society may make available a small amount each year to help offset the costs of travel to our annual conference to those who lack sufficient institutional support. If and when available, these funds are allocated entirely based on need.
Eligibility: ASE Conference Travel Aid may be extended to those who will be presenting work at the annual ASE conference and who fall under one or both of the following categories:
- Students currently enrolled in a relevant MA or Ph.D. program whose institutions cannot cover the full cost of travel to and attendance at the conference.
- Scholars of Native American, Indigenous, or First Nations backgrounds and/or communities, regardless of citizenship, who are unaffiliated with a university and who lack institutional support for conference travel.
Travel aid opportunities will be announced to attendees before each conference, and a simple request form disseminated.
